Watercolor with Emily Lex
“Beauty matters. It brings peace and joy to our souls and reminds us that we are loved and God is good.”
-Emily Lex
This quote stopped me in my tracks, because it sums up so much of my feelings about art and creating. We are made in the image of God, the ultimate Creator. And I believe that He weaved a desire for beauty and creating into our inner most being. That can express itself in so many different ways, but for me, it’s art. And if that’s something that stirs your soul, too, you are going to love what I am sharing today! And make sure to read ‘til the end for an awesome giveaway I know you’ll love.
Emily Lex creates beautiful art and she’s developed an amazing set of products and courses to help you do the same! I was so excited to get my hands on these, because I have been wanting to work on my own watercolor skillset, and I’ve been wanting to do more art projects with my boys. But teaching them myself felt a bit overwhelming.
The watercolor notebooks Emily Lex created are so incredibly smart and helpful. There are step by step guides on what to do, and the pressure to create from scratch is taken off of you. My boys love the animal notebook. There are ten different beginner friendly animals for you or your kids to learn to paint. You start off with an example and then a line drawing for you to paint. Then there are blank pages after each animal for you to use. The flower notebook is similar layout with gorgeous drawings to work from. I have been trying to learn how to watercolor florals for a while now, and this has made it so much less intimidating!!
She also has some pretty incredible courses! If you’ve been wanting to learn how to do hand-lettering or just improve your penmanship in general, you should try her Simplified Penmanship course. There’s also one called Simplified Watercolors. You’ll learn the basics through 10 video lessons, and you’ll get project guides to practice with! You do not need to be an expert to do this! There’s also one for kids! There are 8 video lessons and templates to use. We are going to be tackling these courses together as part of our summer homeschool time, and I am so excited about it. I hope this ignites a love for art in my kids in a new and fun way.
Another beautiful product she has created are the Truth for Today cards - for grown ups and for kids. You can even get a pretty little holder or stand to set them up with. I love the idea of going through and memorizing each verse or changing them out daily (there are 31) for sweet reminders in your home. Hearing my boys quote God’s Word is one of the sweetest sounds, and I love filling our home with it!
