Mastectomy Recovery must-haves
I have rounded up a few of the things that were helpful to me as I recovered from my mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstructive surgery. I will add to the list as more things come to mind! Please feel free to reach out with any other questions, anytime.
You’ll have to sleep on your back for a while post-surgery. The wedge pillow makes it significantly more comfortable! I used my memory foam pillow (see below) on top, along with pillows on my sides for my arms to rest on and one under my knees. High maintenance? Yes. But necessary? Also yes.
This pillow is so dang comfortable!! And a fraction of the cost of some name brand pillows.
The hospital bra is great the first week or 2, but after that I lived in these. They are great for sleeping, too. You’ll need to sleep in a bra for a bit while everything heals.
Lifting your arms overhead the first week or 2 can be challenging, so grab a couple of these tops to wear to doctors appointments or just when you need to change out of PJs. You’ll be able to wear them long after since they’re also super cute!
Leggings are basically a life must-have if you ask me, but post surgery you’ll love the extra support the high waisted band offers.
Button front for the same reason mentioned above. Plus they’re just really comfy and cute!! They’re great for a hospital stay too. These are so cute and incredibly comfortable! I have two pairs and wear them all the time!
Comfortable and cute? Yes to both.
You’ll want to be able to stay hydrated with as little effort as possible. So don’t get a cup you have to lift up to drink from! These straw cups are insulated so they won’t leave a water ring on your nightstand either. Stay super hydrated!!
You’ll be walking around hospital hallways post surgery, so get yourself some slippers! Ones you can just slide your feet into without having to bend over are a must.
